Edge explanation:

Natural stone slabs are produced in various thicknesses, such as 1/2", 3/4" (2 CM), 1", and 1-1/4" (3 CM). Most commonly used slab thickness in United Sates are 3/4" (2 CM) and 1-1/4" (3 CM).

3 CM aka 1-1/4" THICKNESS:
This slab thickness is commonly fabricated as is, and you can see edge samples on the left. First edge gets a shape with high velocity router equiped with diamond prefered shape bit. Only after that proces, edge is being smothed and polished with many levels of fine diamond grits to add shine and smoothness.

2 CM aka 3/4" THICKNESS:
A 3/4" thick slab, can have a shape and be polished in single thickness, just like 3 CM (1-1/4"). But in many cases this slab, also gets a small 2" wide strip, of the same material, laminated at the front bottom of this edge. Also sample can be viewed on the left. Usually a one 2 CM (3/4") layer is laminated to create a 4 CM aka 1-1/2" thick edge. In some cased a third layer requested for to crate a 2-1/4" Thick edge. Keep in mind, if stone slab is porous or has a lot of variation, then laminated strip will differ in movement and color. Our technicians workout best scenarious to make both layers match, but in some cases, depending on the stone, its almost imposible to hide the natural variation of the slab when adhesing two vertical pieces.

SUMMARY:
Even thou 3 CM material is Thicker (higher cost), it involves less labor in fabrication (no need to adhear lamination). And 2 CM material is Thinner (lower cost) it requires more labor hours for finishing. Thus at the bottom line the price for either slab thickness and edge comes out to be almost equal.
